Premiere & Broadcast Info

  • Premiere Date: Monday, September 22, 2025, at 8:00 PM ET / 7:00 PM CT on NBC

  • The premiere is a two-hour episode, followed by a second installment the next night (Tuesday) at the same time slot.

  • After the Blind Auditions phase, the show airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c and then will shift to only Monday episodes when the NBC schedule changes (especially when NBA begins airing).

  • Episodes stream next day on Peacock.

New Format & Twists This Season

Season 28 introduces several fresh mechanics to shake up the competition:

  • Carson Callback Card: Host Carson Daly gets the power to bring back one contestant who didn’t receive any chair turns in the Blind Auditions.

  • Artist-Chosen Battles: In a change from past seasons, contestants will choose their own battle matchups instead of being paired by the coaches.

  • Mic Drop in Knockouts: Coaches can press a Mic Drop button on a performance they think is standout. Viewers then vote on that performance to earn an extra reward (a special performance slot at the Rose Parade in 2026).

  • Playoffs Changes: Steals are removed. Each coach advances only one artist to the Live Shows, with additional finalists decided by viewer votes.

How the Season Flows

  • Blind Auditions: Typically 6 episodes

  • Battles → Knockouts → Playoffs → Lives: The progression tightens as artists compete for fewer spots in the Live rounds.

  • The Live Shows follow after the playoff phase, culminating in a winner.
